Introduction, page 1

Truman was justified in dropping the atomic bomb because it saved many American lives and it put an end to World War II. Even though some of the Japanese civilians were innocent, the Japanese were basically manipulating their own people to end their own life during this time. The Japanese were also responsible for killing millions of Chinese, raping women and children, and even burning some of them alive. The Japanese Military was extremely harsh on others and their own people. They forced young adults and teenagers to drive pilots and commit suicide, but none of the elders stepped up to do the job. The Japanese were given a chance to surrender, but wouldn't. The Allie leaders wanted unconditional surrender, but the Japanese refused. The war in Japan was very fatal; the more inland the more casualties there would be. The U.S. stepped in and decided that the best thing to do was to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, hoping it would put an immediate end to the war. The United States saved millions of American lives by dropping these bombs, and therefore it was justified.

History, page 2

  • Little Boy was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
  • Fat Man was dropped on the city of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945.
  • Little boy killed about 140,000
  • Fat man killed about 100,000
  • Before the dropping of the bomb, war was very gruesome in Japan, POW were tortured and some were forced to kill their own men.
  • Japan refused the unconditional surrender, that the Allies offered.
  • Japan asked their civilians to fight till death.
  • An invasion of Japan would have caused more causalities than in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Evidence, page 3

  • Millions of Americans and Japanese would have been killed in the invasion of mainland Japan.
  • World War II would have been dragged out for many years, and would relate in more spending and overproduction of war goods.

(Production of U.S. planes)
  • Japanese were torturous towards Chinese and their own people.
  • Japanese sent Kamikaze pilots(young men) on suicide missions to crash planes into American naval vessels.

(Waving off the Kamikaze pilots)
  • The suicide rate would have increased because the Japanese government lied to their people, saying Americans would torture and rape women and children.
(Suicide of Japanese, even though the U.S. was never planning on hurting them)
